Somehow, The Audio Drama Gazette Returned
Welcome back to the ✨ Audio Drama Gazette! ✨
We went quiet for a hot minute! Life got busy for both Anne and Tal. But the two of us have returned from RESONATE revived with creative energy. So… WE’RE BACK!
In case you forgot what the heck this newsletter is: It’s a [used to be quarterly but will now release when the stars align] newsletter with coverage, commentary, and critiques of audio drama and the podcasting industry, geared towards both listeners and creators.
We’re so excited to share our love of audio drama with you. Tell your friends to subscribe! Consider placing an advertisement so we can pay our writers! And above all, thanks for reading.

✍️ Mini Podcast Review: catskull ✍️
A neo-noir Singaporean thriller by Andas Productions

Catskull is a neo-noir Singaporean thriller about violence, identity, and the dark pursuit of finally mattering. With lush sound design and compelling writing, catskull paints a visceral and grimy picture of life in Singapore. It explores the frustrations of injustice and fires of friendship with a tale that will leave you on the edge of your seat and wanting to hear more. It’s like nothing I’ve ever listened to! Catskull premiered October 24, 2025 and releases new episodes every Friday.

Local Files Club is a digital label for short-form audio fiction!
We’re building an alternative distribution model for audio fiction in an effort to sustain short-form and experimental work that plays with and interrogates the form. Local files are what we sell. There’s no subscription, and we’re not collecting your data for advertisers. You buy a show and then it’s yours, forever, to do whatever you want with (ideally, listen). Our shows also come with bonus materials like soundtracks, commentary tracks, artwork, and more, so listeners get all the benefits one might get from a Patreon or membership program in one, singular package.
Subscribe to the newsletter or follow Local Files Club on social media to hear about new releases from their artists, plus interesting and experimental projects from across the wider audio fiction ecosystem.
Their newest release is Ms. Shipton's Travelling Tea Shop
![]() | Ms. Shipton’s Travelling Tea Shop follows the adventures of a tea witch who breaks down in the small village of Talford. As she waits for her van to be repaired, Ms. Shipton sets up shop and meets the locals—a farmer, a publican, and a priest—exploring themes of loneliness, companionship, and queerness through five vignettes. |
Ms. Shipton’s Travelling Tea Shop is nothing short of a modern miracle—a unique, charming audio picnic basket delivered to your ears, begging you to brew your own cup and enjoy warm sips as you take stock of the fun goodies within.

🔍 New Releases 🔍
Audio dramas fresh to the scene that we can’t wait to listen to!
![]() | Necessary Evil is a 4-part miniseries from Absolutely No Adventures. Sometimes a situation calls for a valiant hero and sometimes the only solution is a bit of necessary evil. No one knows that better than Sibella, the usurper queen of Castle Blackthorn. But being a tyrant monarch isn't all about extravagant outfits and resisting the urge to monologue. There's also dungeon upkeep and evil class reunions, not to mention that pesky prophecy about her imminent demise. This is a fantasy-comedy where the villain has already won! (Tal did the sound design for this series and wants to add that the writing is really funny, and the voice acting is incredible). |
![]() | Pilot Light is a feed with experimental audio fiction pilots from both new and experienced creators, curated by Tal Minear. On Pilot Light right now is Above & Below (a sci-fi story of long-distance love in an increasingly apocalyptic time) and Humanity TBD (a lighthearted post-apocalyptic sci-fi story about what it means to be human). There’s more coming soon, but at no set release schedule. |

What Anne and Tal have been enjoying, in brief.
You want to go to TAFCON so bad I know you do. There are only a handful of tickets left! The Audio Fiction Convention will be a one-day event bringing together creators and fans of audio fiction. We'll have a main stage for panels all about audio drama creation, as well as an Artist Alley for creators to show off their work! It will take place June 14, 2026, in Boulder CO. Right now the only way to get tickets is via Kickstarter.
Phantom Pulse, a new audio drama by Lauren Shippen, is crowdfunding! It looks really cool and I NEED to hear it. It won’t happen unless they hit their goal! Check it out!
