September 2024

Everyone knows September is the new August 🎃🍂

Coming to you LIVE from New Jersey Web Fest, it’s the fall issue of the ✨ Audio Drama Gazette! ✨

Thanks for your patience while we put this issue together—we’ve been up to some real Shenanigans, but we’ll tell you more about that in the Editors’ Desk section below… until then, enjoy other updates from the fiction podcasting community!

In this issue...

🎙️ Industry Critique 🎙️

I think the universe delayed this issue just so it could release after the AVAs revived for 2024. Something we honestly were not sure was going to happen.

If you're unfamiliar with the AVAs, you can read Tal's coverage of them from earlier this year.

According to their most recent update email, they're back for 2024. But if you're interested in submitting keep in mind that they still to this day—more than one year after opening 2023 submissions—have not emailed any of the 2023 winners to tell them they won. The 2023 results are available on the AVA website (if you know where to look), but they have not contacted anyone to announce results or mentioned the results on any of their social media.

So... do with that what you will.

If you're interested in winning an award for your audio drama, might we suggest checking out any of the fabulous events listed as part of the Audio Fiction World Cup? And we’ll have more about one specific festival below!

🔍 New Releases 🔍

Audio dramas fresh to the scene that we can’t wait to listen to!

Is there an amazing podcast we missed that we need to know about? Leave a comment or reply to this in email and let us know. We’ll try to feature it in the next issue!

🗣️ Shout-Out 🗣️

This quarter we want to give a shout out to Finch of Podcast Book Club. Finch has created a awesome community of podcast fans and creators ("and all those that fall somewhere in between"). He puts an incredible amount of time and effort into PBC, and it shows! Finch also runs Podcast Jam and Coffee Shop Chats — the first is a collaborative audio drama creation event, and the second is a podcast about podcasts. Does he have time to sleep? Definitely not, because he's organizing a virtual audio fiction convention. Finch, thanks for everything you do for the audio drama space. You rock!

🗃️ From the Editors’ Desk 🗃️

What Anne and Tal have been enjoying, in brief.

Speaking of audio fiction conventions, Tal and I are currently sitting in the same room drafting this issue at the tail end of New Jersey Web Fest! Between the two of us, we had three shows nominated for awards and featured in screenings this weekend. We’ll find out the winners tomorrow at the Audio Fiction Gala, so keep an eye out on our socials and those of NJWebFest to see the results!

And above all, thanks for reading!
